News from Vicki

26 July 2010

First weekend at Toowoomba great.  This was the State titles with a whole bunch of categories, which was an interesting concept.  Run by the Toowoomba Jumping Club, this hardworking committee had 3 rings going strong.  David Sheppard did the tracks in the main arena, and despite a few footing issues, as in it being a bit inconsistent, and gear that lacked a bit of variety, did an outstanding job.  Graeme Watts did the second ring indoors, using his own gear, and also did his usual fantastic job.  I don't know who did the third ring, but we are camped right beside it, and the tracks looked great!

Our troops had a good show, with my boys doing me proud.  Both Ben and James jumped good rounds all 3 days in the Young Rider classes, placing 2nd (James on Dreamtime Invader) and 4th (Ben on Ryles) on the first day, then 3rd and 5th on the second.  Final day, Ben had an unlucky rail, and James a bit wild for 2 down.

My ponies good with Willy being clear on first 2 days and 5th in the 16 strong jump off day 2, then a tired 2 down in 1.30 Final.  Levi was consistent, 1 down each day, but stepping up to the 1.30 level very well.  The committee had tried to do the right thing by watering the ground, but some spots were pretty boggy, so it presented it's own difficulties.  Jane stepped back up to the 1.40 classes, and jumped super.  4th on the first day, then 1 down on the other 2 days due to pilot error, but feeling comfortable at this level.  Queenslanders generally dominated with Robert Goodwin winning the Grand Prix on Sandron from Robert Moffatt on It's Ritchie.  Merrick Ubank won the 1.30 Ch'ship on a super young horse, only 5 years old, who is by Alimo.  Didn't catch his name, but looks a serious horse that may need to be backed off a bit now it has shown how good he is!  NSW got a look in when Gaby Kuna won Young Rider Ch'ship on Jimmy Choo. Junior Ch'ship went back to Q'ld with Kirsty Ansell winning this.  The 1.20 Ch'ship was won by Brook Dobbin on his and Ange's very cute Errol baby Premier Dollars. All classes at all levels were very strong with huge numbers.  My super Nikki des Hayettes jumped great all weekend, and finished up 5th in the 1.10 Ch'ship out of 25 in the jump off.  This was won in a super round by Colleen Brook protege Harry Owens on Southern Cross. Ben's Brad jumped great in these classes also, placing in one, and looking better and better all the time.

Now a fairly cruisy week, with just a bit of teaching to do before the World Cup show this weekend, where Janey will hopefully do the World Cup on Saturday, which is the day also that the 3 new ponies, Kartoon, Carrus and Casino arrive in Australia...
