News from Vicki

13 July 2010

Great news from Europe in that all the Aussie troops are going gangbusters.  Leading the way this time is ex pat Victorian James Patterson-Robinson who won the Geesteren 4* Grand Prix in a very classy field on his best horse NIACK  DE L'ABBAYE, for which he won a Volvo car.  Chuggy and VIVANT had already won the second Grand Prix Qualifier and were 6th in the big class.  Also at the same show, Matt Williams, still fine tuning his new team, and Wendy Schaeffer, at her second show of her tour, having some great rounds in the Middle Tour.  Edwina was 5th in the Grand Prix at the La Coruna 4*  show on a new ride CISKE VAN OVENS.  Paul Athanasoff continues his campaign with good placings on WIRRAGULLA NICKLAUS at the Bonheiden 2* show, and to top off a great weekend for the Aussies, Amy Graham was in the money in the Wiener-Neustadt 2* Grand Prix on BELLA BALOUBET.  Go Aussies!  Just a bummer that when they played the National Anthem for James' great win, it was the wrong one....  you think they would have heard enough of it with some of Edwina's and James'  great results to have it a bit closer to hand...

Also on the European front, CASALL LA SILLA, the sire of Robynne McTaggert's exciting Australia  bound stallion CASINO ROYALE, won the Grand Prix at the 5* Falsterbo Show, and also anchored the winning Swedish Team in the Super League Meydan Nations Cup with rider Rolf-Goran Bengsston.  CASINO, along with new recruits CARRUS and KARTOON are now safely in quarantine in the UK under the extemely good care of Pauline Cushing, who is reknowned as one of the world's supergrooms.  Pauline has been in the business for ever, and has worked with many of the world's great riders.  I was lucky enough to have her helping me with APACHE when he was 9th placed in the Aachen 5* Grand Prix, and I was delighted to hear that she would be taking care of the three boys.  They fly out on the 29th July, and should be here in Mount White in August.  Can't wait...

Closer to home we took a bunch to Central Coast Jump Club on Sunday, and BABY BELLE again a star, and just takes everything in her expansive stride.  NIKKI DES HAYETTES also belying her tender years, and enjoying the fact that she now has back shoes!  WILLY again a good boy, and seems to be functioning well in his new bit.  Nicky and MONTY are improving with every outing, and Izzy and her giant FAIR CHALLENGE are enjoying each other's company.  Harriet Gruen from Canberra joined us to get a bit of help again with RALPH, but despite being great on Saturday, on Sunday was a bit unlevel, so didn't start, as we suspect a stone bruise.

Sydney Jump Club Winter Ch'ships this Sunday, then up to Toowoomba for State Titles and World Cup show.
