News from Vicki

11 February 2007

Been a busy few weeks. Did clinics in SA and Victoria, which were great fun. Had a great bunch of students at both, with the SA Clinic being run at the superb facility of the Brice family at Mallala, which has a great indoor, which I used on the first day with a radio mike whereby I could yak my head off even when I was riding! Second day we went outdoors on fabulous grass ring where the footing was perfect, and we were also able to play with a great in ground open water jump, which was beneficial to all those who attempted it. Many thanks to Adam Beckel and SA EFA for organizing the clinic, and for John and Rae Brice for making the facility available. Also, the riders; great to see Chooch, Kristy, Michelle all on their good horses. Onto Victoria, and Werribee was a bit windy, as usual, and our cause wasn't helped by the polo matches on the next door grass arena that tested some of the horses' brains! But everyone really keen, and horses and riders jumped great. Good to see Becky Allen get a guernsey for the Trans Tasman team coming up soon. Thanks to Pam Lewis and Brad Trewin for all their help there.

Morisset Show the following weekend is one of those good little aggie shows with  great footing and plenty of room thanks to the efforts of organizer Michael Difford and Course Designer David Lawrence. Super for all the young horses having their early outings, but the main class of the second day saw some pretty cutthroat competition featuring 5 World Cup horses, with RICARDO D winning a fast jump off from Jeremy Inglis' still wonderful little stallion JUNE BUG. Sunday we headed to Berry, to the latest of the 'boutique' shows that are really making a mark now. Simon Kale had organized a great bunch of sponsors headed up by Guess watches for a day of height classes over courses well designed by John Wilsher. Ground was a little firm with the current drought, and there wasn't a lot of room in the warm up, but there were stacks of competitors and jumping was good all day. Thanks to all who made this new show possible. And thanks to Guess watches for my beautiful watch that RICARDO very kindly won for me!

Nowra Show this last weekend, and one of the best arenas footing wise in the state.  And things made so pleasant by the wonderful welcome always given by the Committee down there largely made up of the Bennett family! Merv is Ringmaster, Anne, Jodie and Vicky do a lot of the office work and John is the Show President!  Warren Priestly designed great courses over the two days for the huge entries that saw jumping going pretty well non stop from 8 in the morning til 8 at night, with judge Julia Macintyre doing a marathon job. Chuggy won the Grand prix on the fabulous VIVANT giving him a $1,500 bonus for competing the week before at the Berry Show in the Grand prix. Amanda Madigan was 2nd on TP GIFTED, and INFATUATION 3rd, having his first show since Tempo, and coping surprisingly well with the show atmosphere, having won the A Grade the day before, managing to outpace the speedy CP ARGENTINA and Emily Blinkworth with his much longer legs!
